Attempts at reconciliation in Aristaenetus' "Erotic letters"

Even though scholars are yet to agree on the authorship of epistolary collection "Erotic Letters", it is usually ascribed Aristaenetus and was probably written in 6th century AD. The letters mostly depict extramarital affairs (with "hetairai", slaves or married women), often accompanied by conflicts fuelled (sometimes justified) jealousy either partner’s lack interest because there better options: e.g. a "hetaira" gets richer client, client seduced younger better-looking girl, etc. Therefore, most reconciliation efforts "Letters" fact lovers’ attempts get back together improve their relationships end them civilised manner otherwise. focus research analysis protagonists’ strategies methods (such as verbal persuasion, lying, causing sympathy, projecting guilt onto somebody else, letter-writing, use male female mediators, etc.) effectiveness. final goals are: point out common employed, investigate whether not men women similar methods, check which gender more likely choose indirect such mediators writing sending letters, examine generally successful at (as well explain why that so). Additionally, author’s depictions his narrative tool put into wider context through comparison with other collections this type, originality these scrutinised probable models (within outside subgenre) proposed.
